Whirling ShadowsThe Psalm of Darkness is eternal, but everyone can seek redemption... 10月28日 Now you're thinking with PortalsWell... I jsut Finished Portal. And I loved it. The wacky methods for throwing yourself across the room, the distortion of regular space, the "Cake" >:) I had tremendos fun and plan to work my way through the "Achievements" list and the challenges. I think what I like best is that it's a puzzel game in the skin of a shooter. Because I suck at Shooter games but like the challenge of puzzels. some of the rooms are really hard. You need to sit there and think about how to solve it, occasionally thinking of several steps that you need to follow in quick succession before you can resolve a particular challenge. If you want to see it then You Tube is your Friend, here's the demo : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if3Qv2tHyfA So Yeah, I got bitten by the Portal bug. And while I've finished it I will certainly be playing it again. As they say "There's a hole in the Sky, through which things can fly" 12月31日 Auld Lang SyneOn News Years people sing Auld Lang Syne (which translates as "times gone by"). I never really gave it much thought (though I like the tune) and and never really new the words. But this time I thought to myself that I'd find out a bit more. Turns out it's an old song, and once I found the lyrics I really began to like it. So less people suffer the sam confusion as me I've decided to include the lyrics here. (Joy) Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And auld lang syne? CHORUS: For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll tak a cup of kindness yet, For auld lang syne! And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp, And surely I'll be mine, And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet, For auld lang syne! We twa hae run about the braes, And pou'd the gowans fine, We've wander'd monie a weary fit, Sin auld lang syne. We twa hae paidl'd in the burn Frae morning sun till dine, But seas between us braid hae roar'd Sin auld lang syne. And there's a hand my trusty fiere, And gie's a hand o thine, And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught, For auld lang syne Appearently this song was adapated from a traditional song by Rabbie Burns (1759-96) so it hass been around for quite some time. So this New Years Blog Out 6月27日 So... A Year OlderWell, I’m a full year older and it’s been ages since I last updated my Blog.
So how do I feel about adding another year to my score (assuming age is a score in life, and life is an endurance challenge)? Well the precise day itself passed with much fan fair. 8 people said happy birthday, I had dinner with my Kinfolk, where one of my Brothers favourite meals was served, and my Dad’s cake of choice was desert (with no icing But there was much good about the day as well. My Co-workers treated my to coffee and mini-cheesecakes, I got one of my gifts first thing in the morning and was shaking and examining it and it’s golden wrap all day (which was lots of fun in itself), and I did get some fuss made over me. Now, I must also confess that I did have a celebration with most of my friends on the Saturday preceding my Birthday and received gifts and congratulations then so it’s not like they forgot, they just made me do the organising.
So I’m older but not over the hill, still filled with the same strange humour and occasionally disturbingness, and it some one else’s Birthday tomorrow (June is a busy Birthday month for me). Thus it really doesn’t seem all that different, save that I’m statistically a better driver now (go figure).
Maybe I’ll update with another post soon, if so, it will be heavily influenced by my gamer / nerd nature and probably be about something many couldn’t care less about.
So until next time, Blog Out. 3月6日 CheeseMunchkin-ing, Optimisation, Min-Maxing, Cheese, Beardy-ness, it all amounts to the same thing. The customisation of a character to do something so well that it shock those around you and almost no one can compete in that field.
Of course, like everything, there are levels of Cheese that go from “Oh, he’s really dangerous if he does X” to “What do you mean ‘You’re more immortal than a god’ ?” or “Did you say you shoot everyone in the enemy army?” And there lies the heart of the issue of cheese. Go without it and you’re a master of average-ness who is kinda OK but gets can’t overcome a semi complex riddle and dies the minute a dangerous foe pulls a weapon. Go to much and nothing can touch you except a way overpowered enemy who has incidentally killed your allies already.
The Key to Cheese is in moderation. You specialise in one area but don’t become insanely specialised. It pisses everyone off and becomes boring. Every where you go there is no challenge. Until sooner of later you come across just the right foe who has just the right setup to rip you a new one. Or something engages you in an area that isn’t your forte and you end up grovelling as the feet of someone else. Yeah, in a fight you can smash walls and strike down any boss. Unfortunately this Boss hits a couple powers and now you love them. So now you work for them and kill your one time allies whom have no escape (unless one of them can do the same thing to you again and “reconvert” you).
So why have cheese at all? Because it’s fun to have some cheese. It’s so much fun to get everyone to stand back and shine, showing everyone that in X there is little to no competition.
Now on to why I’m Bloging about this. It’s because I have had an idea that is cheese. However I don’t think it’s game breaking cheese. I think it just makes my character really cool at a couple things. However the guy in charge is disagreeing with me. He is shocked to the core and believe I’ve made something Game breaking. This has become a point of contention for both of us. I’ll admit in it’s field it’s powerful but it’s hardly game breaking. I can (and have) easily named almost a dozen ways in which to overcome my cheese. I hit lots but the hits are weak. A number of enemies can shrug off the best of what I can dish out regardless of the number of times I hit them. And still he says “That’s the ultimate Cheese”. It’s nasty in it’s area but I can easily think of things that are far more potent. Hell, I’ll played things more potent and even things which can overpower the Cheese I’ve made in short order in it’s chosen field.
I’m kinda angry and Bloging but I like characters that can excel in their given area. As long as you don’t go too far then I think it’s OK to field a bit of Cheese. I’m made cheese that was sooo cheesy that cheese within close proximity to it were reclassified as not being cheese. This isn’t it.
So anyway, yeah, I want my bit of cheese and Damn it! It’s not that bad!
End Blog 2月21日 Cat Escape!!!No, things aren't as drastic as it sounds. In this house there are 3 cats. 2 Young-ish cats and 1 not young cats. The two young-ish ones are indoor cats are not allowed outside, the older one (DC, featured in previous Blogs) is allowed outside. This has been something of a point of contention. Today marked the construction of a fenced in section of the back yard in which the two young-ish ones can go out into a controlled environment. The DC can still roam with greater freedom. It was interesting to watch how the 3 cats reacted. Bails, the most timid and "Scaredy Cat" of the trio, was the first out the door. The cat was frightened of everything except outside. Of course, the one thing we didn't want him doing was going outside so he made numerous attempts to escape. He got fairly good at it too. Sunny, the 7kg Bruiser of the three was shaking as he stepped outside. The Sky, the unfiltered sunlight, the nature, it was all very traumatic and frightening for him. Faced with a bug, his instinct was to flee and it took a massive amount of effort to convince the thick lummox that the grass wouldn't hurt him (something he's still not sure about). DC, being far older and also a veteran of the "Outdoors", was mostly unfazed. His biggest gripe: Things had changed and he hadn’t given his approval for such changes. So, anyway, the Cats all have outside space (though still, DC is the only one allowed out the front door). End Blog 1月28日 Long Time, No BlogWell, it the new year and I've finally gotten around to updating my Blog which proves I'm not a holiday statistic.
Why haven't I update for so long? Well I blame overall laziness on my part. I certainly can't claim to have been busy, as many of my friends have been away for at least part of the "Holiday season" and I spent that period going almost insane from boredom. It's not that I can't keep myself entertained for 3 or 4 days without at least touching base with my friends etc, but 7 to 10 days generally has me at my limit. Still, as January comes to an end many of my friends and associates have returned to the region and my social life has once again resumed is course. In about another month I expect my full circle to have come back to town and at that point I'll be busy.
It's not that I don't appreciate solo time and so forth, it just I like to have smaller portions of it.
Anyway, moving on (as I'm starting to sound rantish) I have come to the conclusion that Summer is not my favourite season. It does have certain benefits (such as girls in summer wear) but really hate the heat. It's hot and I end my having trouble sleeping. Hence summer bad. Plus it's the season of "out door" activities. Now, I have little problem with out doors as long as I don't have to go there (OK, so I'm exaggerating) but the underlying fat is that I'm not much of an out doors person unless I have motivation and it being really hot here doesn't help.
In other stuff I haven't covered:
* I re-affirmed my status as a Nerd over the weekend by going to Cancon. Twice.
*The various cats around the house are all in good health but are not happy that they can't find someone nice and cool to sit on.
* Woa! Hokey Pokey Pokey! (and that's what its all about).
And yeah. Go stuff.

12月21日 Foiled?!?Well, it's been like, a month since I last updated and I figured I should probably update again (to prove I haven't died or something
I've finally added some photos to my space but they don't include me. Instead they are of a Co-workers desk. They had the gaul to taunt me about the fact that they were gonig to Hawaii for a week. As vengence I wrapper their desk in Tin Foil so as to "Foil" their plant to taunt me.
I'm actually quite happy with the result. The shelves on the right and the various bottles on the left were my favorite bits. I even managed to convince some of my co-workers to help me Mwahaha!
When my Co-worker got back she was quite surprised. She saw her desk and got a shocked Gold Fish expression. She was motionless and silent for about 10 seconds before she could gather her wits enought to ask what was going on (to which I took distinct delight is announcing that her return to work was "Foiled").
Some people might say Cling Wrap is more traditional but Foil is more shiny and reflective (and thus more visable to other people inducing more commentary).
In other news my plans to go away over Christmas have been canned and so I plan to spend several days lounging around watching TV & DVD's and eating snack food. That's quality rest and relaxation.
